Nominate Your Favorites Now - The About.com 2012 Readers' Choice Awards

About.com 2012 Readers' Choice AwardsIt was 19 years after Thomas Mann had been awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature — primarily and a bit oddly for his social novel Buddenbrooks, which had been published 28 years earlier —, that the German was nominated for a second literature Nobel Prize.
The year before Mann received his prize a Frenchman had already been nominated for his second. That, of course, was just one year after the philosopher had been awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature and 16 years after his first nomination for the prize, which the lecturer at the Collège de France — who spoke insightfully about time — received 100 years ago.
Now, you can hand out nominations as well, not here for Nobel Prizes but for the 2012 About.com Readers' Choice Awards

Firebird - Free Email Stationery Download and E-Card

Firebird - Free Email Stationery Download and E-CardSome 200 miles (330 km) northeast of Moskva, in a small town of about 5,500, flabby papiermache boxes are dipped into hot linseed oil. They emerge hardened after drying, and receive a coating of black varnish. It's time for the famous painting — showing, mostly, motives from folklore and literature — using tempera based on egg yolk, vinegar and water on a layer of zinc white.
Before a final sealing with lacquer, the Palekh miniatures may receive a quality mark: the firebird.

IncrediMail: Spot a Contact's Mail Fast with a Special Icon

"Dear R.,"
Ludwig van Beethoven began a letter in the summer of 1815, after the Congress of Vienna had ended, to his friend Johann Baptist Rupprecht, "a long time ago I jotted down two melodies for your 'Merkenstein'" — a poem by Rupprecht expressing fondness for and longing after the ruins of Merkenstein castle near Baden; "Merkenstein", by the by, means "stone of remembering", literally.
"Both these compositions," the letter continued, "were, however, buried under a pile of papers. The day before yesterday, I found the one which I am enclosing."
Soon, Beethoven would find the other composition, too. If you want to spot your letters from R. or B. as quickly as Beethoven, IncrediMail can help:

How to Add an Image to Your Gmail Signature

Wuppertal, Germany; July 21, 1950, 10:30 a.m.: a man buys a ticket for the venerable Schwebebahn monorail. The 4 year-old girl with him buys five tickets.
They board a second class wagon. Behind them, more people scramble inside carrying notebooks, pencils, pens and cameras.
A minute into the journey or two, the girl wants to turn around, gets up, and hits her head at the ceiling. She panics, of course, people scream, a bench breaks, then a window — and Tuffi, the four year-old elephant on a promotional tour for Circus Franz Althoff, has jumped out of the monorail into the river Wupper below. Franz Althoff himself hurtles after the animal and finds her calm and unharmed, safe for a scratched behind.
Now, amazingly, not one of the journalists inside the monorail or out took a picture of Tuffi's famous and daring escape. So, if you find a depiction in somebody's Gmail signature, you know it must be photoshopped; and you know how it — or any other image — got there, of course:
