January 23, 2011 - Windmill Networking Newsletter

Greetings

2012 has begun, and without a doubt Google+ is the talk of the town. While Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn continue to grow in size and importance, it is imperative that your business at least create a Business Page on Google+ for many reasons. I expect to see Google+ rise in users this year (last year I predicted 100 million by year end, and it is estimated that they are currently at 90+ million) as well as actual engagement as more an more G+ conversations appear in Google search results.

On the other hand, there is a new social networking website which is starting to gain some steam: Pinterest. I was skeptical about Pinterest, but after receiving an invite and trying it out, I can see how it is addicting and appealing to many. If you are looking to try it out and need an invite, please let me know by clicking here.

Finally, as social media for business becomes more known as merely "social business," I continue to ramp up the content on Windmill Networking by being host to a number of hand-picked bloggers that provide excellent content, insight, and perspective (if you want to be considered, please see below). In addition to the topics I mentioned before, I am happy to announce that I have signed on bloggers that will be providing guidance in these additional areas:
  • Social Media for the Hospitality Industry
  • Social Media for Startups
  • Social Media and Relationship Marketing
  • Google+
  • Social Media and Marketing Automation
  • Social Media MBA
  • Social Business Trends

Top 10 Social Media Events to Attend in 2012

I often get asked by businesses and professionals what social media events they can attend to learn about cutting-edge tools, best practives, get up-to-speed, or network with their social media peers. I decided to, based on my own experience, provide everyone an authoritative list that I recommend you attend if you have the budget and time. A disclaimer to my global readers: Since I have yet to attend a social media conference outside of the US, I can only talk about my experience here, but please let me know which non-American social media events you recommend, and I will be happy to blog about them at a future date.

Please read the entire list of events here.
